Nagpur city is witnessed violence on March of 17th 2025 due to a chain of events that led to clashes between two groups.
Incident Summary
It all started with a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal protest near Shivaji Maharaj statue in Mahal area of Nagpur. Protesters demanded removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb citing historical reasons. Situation worsened when rumors spread that a religious text was desecrated during the protest.mint
Stone throwing, burning, and damaging property followed.. Multiple vehicles were set on fire and several people including police personnel were injured. In response, curfew was imposed in some areas and Section 144 was enforced to stop further violence by Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal.

Political and Community Response
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari appealed for peace and asked citizens not to believe unverified rumors. Leaders from all parties spoke against the violence and stressed the need for peace between communities.
Current Status
As of 18th March 2025, situation in Nagpur is under control with heavy police presence. Police are investigating the incident and trying to identify and book the culprits.This incident highlights how fragile are the communal relations and how we need to address the underlying issues to prevent such incidents in future.
