Introduction of Kalbaisakhi -

Kalbaisakhi is a seasonal thunderstorm that occurs before monsoon rain in Bengal & Odisha. These storms brings heavy rainfall, strong wind and sometimes even hail. The kalbaisakhi storms are usually unpredictable but can be quite intense.


What is happening now?

The weather experts have issued an alert of Kalbaisakhi rain across several parts of West Bengal & Odisha. Starting from 19 March 2025, the storm is expected to affect South Bengal including districts like Bankura, Purulia & midnapore.
In Odisha the rain is expected to begin around 20 March 2025. The storms are expected to continue until late April. Bengali News18

Wind can reach speeds of 50-60 km/hr, which could uproot trees & damage property.
